"The Merge" was originally painted in 2023. It came from a sense of a powerful motion from where I was standing in front of the canvas and I wanted to reach upward into the unknown, the mystery of the abstract. As I studied the painting over time, as I do with most of my paintings, I realized I am not a solo person. I decided to add to it. I realized I have not been solo for sixty one years, so instead of only me reaching, I wanted to add a companion on the journey and reaching up and through a union of two people merging into a single entity aspiring together to step into the mystery of the unknown, to explore what could be and will be, and that has been my life.
